About Dr Rob Dachs

Rob is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery.

He began working in orthopaedic surgery in 2005 and obtained his undergraduate and specialist qualifications at the University of Cape Town.

Rob has worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in shoulder and elbow surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital. In 2013/2014 he completed an 18-month fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery under the mentorship of Professor Steve Roche and Professor Basil Vrettos with whom he continues to work in association.

Rob regularly visits international surgeons to keep up to date with the latest shoulder and elbow surgical techniques, and in 2015 he was invited to attend the Mayo Clinic Advanced Elbow Surgical Skills Course in the USA, which he attends annually.

Awards and Research

Rob has received several awards for his research through the University of Cape Town into the treatment of shoulder and elbow disorders, and his papers have been published in leading international journals, and presented internationally.

He is a peer reviewer of shoulder and elbow research papers submitted to the South African Orthopaedic Journal and is actively involved in teaching registrars-in-training and medical students.

In 2014 he was awarded an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) international Scholarship to complete further training in shoulder and elbow surgery in the United States.
